Rossella, 2023, Summa Cum Laude in Advanced Global Studies

Coming from Italy, Rossella has graduated in the One-Year Master in Advanced Global Studies

What skills/strategy helped you to succeed at PSIA?

Being able to balance working in a team and leading a team. With many courses requiring you to work with your peers, you have to be able to strike the right balance between listening and complementing ideas while knowing when you should add energy, focus and passion when everybody starts having multiple deadlines to meet. Organisation and time management will allow you to maintain a busy and healthy social life, which are necessary to unload and enjoy the bustling Parisian life.

What part of your PSIA experience do you think will be of greatest help in your career?

Designing development projects for real issues on the ground and writing policy reports with the goal of reaching the eyes and ears of key policymakers. These are both useful for you to understand what you enjoy doing and what you excel at as well. Additionally, you can use your work in your applications and interviews as real examples of how you would handle a development project in practice or showcase your creative policy ideas.

What advice would you give to current and future PSIA students?

Pick the courses and concentrations that speak to your heart. I picked my track, concentration, and courses by writing a small paragraph on them. When the words naturally flowed from my fingers as I was typing, I knew I had picked the right subject matter. This will also help throughout your course: if you truly enjoy the subject, it will not feel like hard work at all!
