Morgan, Human Rights & Humanitarian Action

Morgan Packer has graduated in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action. She works as Junior Specialist, Radioactive Waste Management at OECD in Paris, France.

What is your role and main responsibilities?

My role as a Junior Specialist in Radioactive Waste Management supports the work programme of the Radioactive Waste Management Committee (RWMC) and Committee for Decommissioning of Nuclear Installations and Legacy Management management (CDLM). I assist with the organisation of technical meetings, research studies and information exchange among RWMC and CDLM members. I also contribute to international co-operation and projects in the area of radioactive waste management and conduct qualitative and quantitative research to analyse waste management policies and trends in member and non-member countries.

>How did you secure this role?

I applied online through the OECD job portal and went through the official competitive recruitment process which involves submitting written materials, an exam and panel interview.

How did your PSIA experience help you with the role?

During my 3rd and 4th semesters at PSIA, and as part of my Master’s Degree, I served as a Trainee and External Consultant at the OECD/NEA where I worked on psychosocial effects of nuclear accidents, stakeholder involvement in nuclear, and radioactive waste management. In addition, balancing 8-10 quite challenging courses at a time truly improved my time management skills, writing effectively and under pressure, and capacity to analyze a large amount of information in a short time frame. These are all highly transferable to the working environment.

What advice would you give to others?

Network and connect with PSIA faculty, visiting professors, and your peers! You have some of the world’s most brilliant minds at your disposal.
