Trouble Across the Pond: Democratic Crises and the Future of the West
About this event
14 June 2024 from 17:30 until 19:00
Online
2024 is set to become a pivotal year for Europe, the United States, and the world and elections on both sides of the Atlantic have contributed to the underlying uncertainty. The trans-Atlantic relationship is in flux. America, eyeing an increasingly turbulent Middle East and the geopolitical ambitions of China and Russia, is unsure of its priorities. Europe, facing mounting security challenges, economic woes, and the rise of populism, ponders strategic autonomy, even as it fears American abandonment. Climate change looms heavily in the background.
This conference will attempt to shed some light on critical topics on both sides of the Atlantic, coinciding with a paramount moment for the (re)definition of world affairs and multilateralism in the years to come.
This event co-hosted by IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs (SPEGA), Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), and Yale University Jackson School of Global Affairs.
