On December 8th, a coalition led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) entered Damascus, putting an end to the 54-year dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, many questions have been raised concerning the opportunities and constraints for a political transition in Syria. What is new interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s ability to foster conciliation and inclusion after 14 years of civil war? What should be the steps towards transitional justice? What mechanisms could lead to the lifting of international sanctions?

Our panel will dive into these questions using a global perspective, analyzing the interactions of the domestic, regional, transnational and international spaces of Syria’s transition.
