This discussion explore sthe political and cultural transformations taking place in digitally mediated societies by taking Chile as a case study - from the 2019 social uprising to the recent constitutional processes. Former minister Giorgio Jackson and sociologist Sylvain Parasie discuss how social media shapes political legitimacy and the role that algorithms play in fueling polarization, before exploring possibilities for new forms of democratic deliberation. The audience is also invited to consider: How can we strengthen democracy in an interconnected world?
