Rosemary Byrne’s academic and policy career is in the area of international human rights.
She has been a professor at NYU Abu Dhabi and at the School of Law, Trinity College Dublin. She has served as a Human Rights Commissioner for the Irish Human Rights Commission, which was established in the aftermath of the Good Friday Agreement, and then went on to chair the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency.
For many years she was a visiting professor of international law at PSIA and has also been a visiting professor at the China-EU School of Law, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing and at the University of Copenhagen, as well a Human Rights Fellow at Harvard Law School, and a researcher at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Prof. Byrne received her B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University and J.D. from Harvard Law School.
