Purpose

A research institution

Research at Sciences Po contributes to knowledge and debate in five overarching disciplines: law, economics, history, political science, and sociology. Ever since Sciences Po was first assessed in the QS rankings in 2007, it has ranked among France’s top institutions: first in political science and sociology, second in law, third in history and fourth in economics. Internationally, Sciences Po has improved its performance in political science and international studies, moving up three places to 13th for this discipline, and has maintained its position for Sociology (36th).

Gender studies

The PRESAGE programme relies on the continued engagement of researchers stemming from different Sciences Po research units, departments and programs. It rests on the assertion that gender studies do not constitute an academic discipline, but rather a field of research in constant renewal.

An attractive research network

PRESAGE wants to expand the area of research by encouraging collaborations between Sciences Po’s different research units and by promoting interactions with foreign researchers. In 2017, the French Economic Observatory (OFCE) hosted Oxford’s senior researcher Fran Bennett as part of the Oxford-Sciences Po programme. In 2012 PRESAGE worked with Kyoko Kusakabe who was visiting professor at the Paris School of International Affairs. In 2020, PRESAGE welcomed Nazand Begikhani, a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol who was visiting Professor at Sciences Po’s Centre for International Studies (CERI) through the Vincent Wright Chair that promotes academic exchanges between France and Britain.

PRESAGE programme allows invited researchers working in Sciences Po research units to meet colleagues working on gender studies at Sciences Po.

Promotion of multidisciplinary research

Around ten conferences are organized by PRESAGE each academic year. During these conferences, researchers present their works to a wide audience in an informative and accessible way. The events are opened to everyone, podcasted and downloadable. They aim at promoting researchers’ works, disseminating knowledge and enriching public debate in society on gender questions.

Financial support for research

PRESAGE provides financial support for research at Sciences Po through help in organizing scientific events and in funding publication and translation projects.

PRESAGE program enabled Sciences Po to coordonate the Europe-scale project Effective Gender Equality in Research and the Academia (EGERA) which intends to promote a full set of measures to achieve gender equality and fight gender-based stereotypes in research and the academia.
