The Ateneo de Manila University collaborates with the Urban school for a research on the challenges of city governance with support from the Filipino Commission on Higher Education (CHEd).

The GLM students leaved Paris on 13 January for a study trip in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Discover their program day per day :

  • Day 0 : Arrival - January 14, 2018

The study trip started at 3 pm with the visit of the Ayala museum. For the evening, the students had a welcome dinner with The Ateneo university and the CHEd. They had the pleisure to discover the Filipino culture through the dance and the food.

  • Day 1 - January 15, 2018

Beginning of the Urban laboratory with the conference on “Urban Resilience and Sustainability Challenges : Governance Innovations from the Global South” (see the intervention program). The main goal of the joint urban laboratory is to familiarize both the French and Filipino students with the challenges of city governance in a context of rapid urban sprawl, densification and increasingly visible threats brought by climate change related events and proliferation of systemic risks.

Then, the students visited the company Pangea Green Energy.

  • Day 2 - January 16, 2018

The group went to the Quezon City hall where he met with the vice-mayor Josefina G. Belmonte. Then, they visited Pasig City, a city which pratices a green building strategy.

A debrief and thematic discussions have concluded the day, as usual. 

  • Day 3 - January 17, 2018

The students started their day with a visit of Clarck Green city. Then, they were divided in two groups : the first met the executives of MERALCO company (electricity distributor) and BERDE company (Green Building expert). The second went to the headquarters of ADB (Asian Development Bank).

  • Day 4 - January 18, 2018

The group went to the headquarters of Ayala Land, a property developer. The afternoon was devoted to a Manila tour.  

  • Day 5 - January 19, 2018

The students started their day with a meeting with the Nuvali administration. Then, they moved to Nasugbu, city where the americans landed during the WWII (Manila was occupied by the Japanese).

  • Day 6 - January 20, 2018 - Last day

The urban laboratory ended on saturday morning with a synthesis conference. The students presented their preliminary results of their inquiry in front of a large audience at the Ateneo de Manila. Discussions and exchange between french and Filipino as well as interventions of the academic team concluded the day. Then, the group of GLM students went to the airport.
