Meeting with Lucia BÍZIKOVÁ

Graduate of the Sciences Po Law School, 2016

"I am an alumna of Sciences Po Law School, the Class of 2016, and a scholar of the Linklaters Excellence Scholarship (2013-2016). During my studies of Master in Economic Law, I developed a particular interest in public and private international law and arbitration. After the first year of the Master studies, I took a gap year and spent one semester studying at Harvard Law School and one semester working as an intern at Gide Loyrette Nouel in Paris. In my second year, I specialised in Global Governance Studies. Trying to develop my interest in international law and arbitration further, I attended classes of Professors Horatia Muir Watt, Makane Mbengue, Eduardo Silva Romero, Mark McNeill, Simon Greenberg, and others. Under the coordination of Prof. Diego P. Fernández Arroyo, I also participated to the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, securing a honourable mention for the best individual oralist in the finals in Vienna. At the end of my Master studies, I also worked as an intern in the arbitration department at Linklaters in Paris.

After graduating from Sciences Po Law School with honours, I pursued an LL.M. degree in international law at the University of Cambridge. During this time, I was also a co-organiser of the ICC YAF event and the third annual Cambridge Arbitration Day. Following my time in Cambridge, I worked in international arbitration departments at law firms Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Shearman & Sterling in London. At the moment, I am working as a trainee solicitor in the Litigation & Regulatory department of DLA Piper in London. I am due to qualify as an English solicitor in 2021.

Ultimately, I have maintained a close relationship with my alma mater even after graduating, as I have been assisting Prof. Horatia Muir Watt with the organisation of multiple PILAGG seminars. In addition, together with Professors Muir Watt and Fernández Arroyo, another alumna Agatha Brandão de Oliveira and a team of PhD students including Megan Ma, I have worked as a co-editor of two textbooks in private international law, The Global Private International Law: Adjudication without Frontiers (published in January 2019) and Juger Sans Frontières: Le Tournant Global en Droit International Privé (due to be published in early 2020)."
