Biography

Antonin Bergeaud is Associate Professor of at the École des Hautes études commerciales (HEC Paris). He is also a Senior Associate of the Programme on Innovation and Diffusion (POID), a Research Associate of the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP), a Research Affiliate of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and a Fellow of the Innovation Laboratory of the Collège de France. He also served as economist at the Banque de France and teaches at ENS.

A specialist in economic growth and innovation, his work focuses on the determinants of long-term growth trends and the factors behind the economic slowdown. He explores various angles, including the study of sources of heterogeneity between firms, the creation and diffusion of innovations, and the dynamics of productivity. It also looks at the effects of technological change, in particular the impact of new technologies.

His research has been published in world-renowned journals (American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Economic Journal). He also co-authored the book Le bel avenir de la croissance: Leçons du XXème siècle pour le futur (OJ Economie, 2018), which received the 2019 Prix Turgot de la pédagogie économique, and contributed to The Economics of Creative Destruction (Harvard University Press, 2023). In 2024 he was one of the four nominees for the Cercle des économistes-Le Monde "Best Young Economist Prize".
