IUF logoFor the 4th year in a row, the Institut universitaire de France (IUF) has chosen one of the Department's permanent faculty members to join its ranks: following Jean-Marc ROBIN (Senior Member, 2019), Ghazala AZMAT (Junior Member, 2020) and Pierre CAHUC (Senior Member, Chair for Innovation, 2021), Sergeï GURIEV has just been appointed Senior Member to the IUF, Laureate of the Chair for Fundamental Research. He is appointed to the IUF for five years. Dr. Guriev’s research interests include contract theory, corporate governance, political economics and labour mobility.

Created 30 years ago, the IUF seeks to promote high-level research in universities and to strengthen interdisciplinarity. Every year, the IUF selects new members on the basis of a competitive application procedure - the laureates must demonstrate that they have undertaken innovative and promising research, but must also show creativity, leadership and the ability to share the results of their work with a wide public.

Sergeï Guriev joined the Department in 2013 and since 2019, he is the Scientific Director of Sciences Po's Master's and PhD programmes in economics. He is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) – and notably the Leader of CEPR’s Research and Policy Network on Populism – as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Economic Association. In 2016-19, he served as the Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Prior to joining Sciences Po, Sergeï GURIEV was Rector of the New Economic School in Moscow from 2004 to 2013.

Congratulations to Sergeï GURIEV!
