The Department has an exceptional publication record that is both quantitative and qualitative. Economics as a discipline relies almost exclusively on the peer-reviewed articles in order to measure scientific production and academic excellence. Most of these journals are based in the United States and the rate of acceptance of manuscripts rarely exceeds 10%.

From 2012 to 2017 - the last period of evaluation of the Department by the HCERES - faculty members published 113 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Almost 16% of these publications were in the "Top Five" journals of the discipline: American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics and Review of Economic Studies. And 60% of the Departement's publications appeared in the most prestigious journals specialised in sub-disciplines of economics. These statistics led the HCERES to conclude that "they are exactly what can be found in the very best departments in the world".
