180312 - Shaping European Futures: Crisis and Governance Choices with Lydie Cabane & Martin Lodge, L.S.E., CARR & Sabine Saurugger, Sciences Po Grenoble, Pacte

Date:
12 March, 2018 - 17:00 - 19:00

Sciences Po, Room Jean Monnet, 56 rue Jacob, 75006 Paris

Over the past decade, the European Union has adopted various crisis management mechanisms and policies across sectors. These can be found in traditional sectors such as civil protection, but also in economic, financial, social or environmental crises. These reforms reflect wider transformations of modes of governing in Europe and of the distribution of power between European and national institutions. They also participate to shape the debate about the ‘crises’ of Europe, its future and its legitimacy. The seminar will discuss those themes based on on-going research on the multi-level governance of crises and the role of the European Court of Justice.

Speakers:

Lydie Cabane & Martin Lodge, L.S.E., CARR
Crises, member states and the EU : reconfiguring governance pattern

Sabine Saurugger, Sciences Po Grenoble, Pacte
The judicialization of EMU politics: resistances to the EU’s new economic governance mechanisms at the domestic level

Discussion:

Charlotte Halpern, Sciences Po, CEE

Jérôme Vignon, Director of the ONPES and former rapporteur of the White Paper on European Governance
