2016 Women of the Mediterranean Gender and Leadership programme
- 2016 Women of the Mediterranean Gender and Leadership programme
On May 20, a closing ceremony capped off the two-week Women of the Mediterranean training programme, held for the second time this year.
Cofounded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Families, Children, and Women's Rights and the Inter-ministerial Delegation for the Mediterranean, and backed by the Union for the Mediterranean, this advanced training programme aims to guide and empower young Mediterranean women as the leaders of tomorrow and advocates for gender equality in their countries.
Twenty young women leaders were selected from among more than 900 Southern Mediterranean applicants from Morocco to Turkey to participate in the programme. Over two weeks, they studied the complexities of gender equality and fostered their leadership skills. They were awarded Sciences Po certificates for successfully completing the course by Francis Vérillaud, director of international affairs, and Hélène Périvier, the programme's academic director. The ceremony was also an opportunity for the 2015 participants to officially announce the launch of GEMED, a new Mediterranean network to promote gender equality, and to invite the 2016 participants to join them.
