Master in Public Policy: Core Courses

The Master in Public Policy offers core courses that enable students to acquire in-depth, comparative and transversal knowledge in the field of public affairs, which combines economic, legal, ethical, historical, political, managerial and digital approaches.

During their Master's degree, students must take five core courses in the following modules, regardless of their policy stream. The syllabus of each course can be found on our online programs.

Courses are offered in both English and French.

Semester 1

Governance, Democracy and Public Policy

One of the following courses: 

  • La démocratie libérale a-t-elle encore un avenir ? 
  • Éthique et déontologie 
  • Numérique et démocratie 
  • Fondements historiques de l'action publique 
  • La démocratie moderne et ses dilemmes 
  • Psychology and Public Policy 
  • Democracy in crises 
  • Populism and Autocracy
  • Analytic Approaches to Public Policy 

Public Economics

Depending on your level, you can choose one of these courses: 

  • Public Economics: Introduction (in English or French)
  • Public Economics: Intermediate level, in English or French (course A or course B)
  • Public Economics: Advanced level (in English)

Policy Analysis and Policy Evaluation

One of the following courses:

  • Évaluation des politiques publiques (en français) / Policy Analysis and Policy Evaluation (in English): Beginner, intermediate or advanced level (several courses for each level).
  • Gestion des entités publiques et privées (en français) / Accounting for Public Policy (in English)

Semester 2

Management, Project Management and Negotiations

One of the following courses:

  • Transformation et performance publique dans les pays de l’OCDE
  • Strategic Business Management and Public Adaptation
  • Approche sociologique
  • La pratique des collectivités locales, du service public au service du public
  • Les mutations de la communication publique
  • Analyse du changement
  • Digital Innovations and Public Policies
  • Mainstreaming the environment and delivering genuine policy transformation
  • Innovation démocratique et consultations citoyennes
