Seminar "Berlin: the city as laboratory"
SEMINAR "BERLIN: THE CITY AS LABORATORY" ORGANISED BY THE URBAN PLANNING PROGRAMME
Urs Kumberger will talk about his Berlin-based architectural practice Teleinternetcafe Architektur und Urbanismus and in particular about the urban transformation project Haus der Statistik in Berlin.
The project serves as a prototype for a cooperative planning process with the goal to transform an existing building complex into a new neighborhood as common good for everyone. Haus der Statistik represents a counter model to market driven urban development. The project is characterized by civil engagement, a firm political will, a careful handling of postwar architectural heritage, and a collectively developed urban vision.
