Constructing the Periphery
About this event
16 September 2021 from 18:00 until 20:00
To what extent (if any) was the emergence of modern international law (public and >private) in the nineteenth century coterminous with the colonial project? Does contemporary international law further a postcolonial project? Where do we situate human rights? How far do comparative legal studies, or projects of uniform law (in various forms including measurement schemes) contribute to the construction of the periphery? Alternatively, can the same tools be flipped to the tune of decoloniality?
A discussion with Günter Frankenberg, Tony Anghie, Jorge Esquirol, Megan Ma and Omar Kamel.
