Biography

Moritz Schularick is Professor of Economics at Sciences Po and at Kiel University. He is also the President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy since June 2023. He is a Fellow of the DFG-Excellence Cluster ECONtribute, a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Academia Europea, and a Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) Fellow as well as member of the steering committee of the CEPR's Research and Policy Network (RPN) on Geoeconomics and Security.

Prior to his appointment at Sciences Po and Kiel, Moritz Schularick was Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and Director of the MacroFinance Lab there. Previously, he conducted research at New York University, the University of Cambridge, Freie Universität Berlin, and in the research department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, among others.

His research interests include macroeconomics, geoeconomics, and political economy, among other topics and has been published in the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of International Economics, and several other journals. His research has had support, among others, from the European Research Council and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

He is a recipient of the 2022 Leibniz Prize, Germany's most prestigious research prize, awarded by the DFG. In 2018, he received the Gossen Prize of the Verein für Socialpolitik, the most prestigious award given to German economists.

He regularly advises central banks, ministries of finance, investors, and international organizations.

Moritz SCHULARICK holds a PhD in Economics (’05), summa cum laude, from Free University of Berlin.
