Vittorio Bassi

Vittorio BASSI is Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California (USC). He is also the Lead Academic for International Growth Centre (IGC) Uganda, a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and an Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), and Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA).

His research fields are development economics and labour economics. He is particularly interested in primary private sector development and labour markets in low-income countries. His research has been awarded a number of grants, notably a major research grant in 2023 from Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) on "Improving the Measurement of Productivity Dispersion and Misallocation in Developing Countries" (with Monica Morlacco, Tommaso Porzio and Esau Tugume) and in 2022 a STEG Research Grant for his project "Understanding the Role of Informal Firms’ Clusters for Productivity and Growth" (with Monica Morlacco, Tommaso Porzio and Esau Tugume).

Vittorio BASSI will present a paper, joint with Jung Hyuk Lee, Alessandra Peter, Tommaso Porzio, Ritwika Sen and Esau Tugume, at the next Departmental Seminar on the theme:
