Applied Micro Seminar - Sept 12th
Nava Ashraf is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) since 2016. She is also Co-Director of the Psychology and Economics program at the Suntory and Toyota International Centres for Economics and Related Disciplines (STICERD), and the Founder and Director of the Altruistic Capital Lab at the LSE.
Among her numerous affiliations and achievements, she is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Lead Academic of the International Growth Centre programme on Zambia (IGC) and Fellow of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD). She is also an Affiliated Professor at M.I.T.'s Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).
Her research combines psychology and economics, using both lab and field experiments to test insights from behavioural economics in the context of global development in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. She also conducts research on questions of intra-household decision making and gender norms in the areas of finance, fertility, and labor force participation. Her papers are published in leading journals including the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Journal of Economic Perspectives.
