Martín Fernández Sánchez is a Research Associate in the Living Conditions group of the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER). He is also a Research Affiliate at IZA@LISER and ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin (RFBerlin). He joined LISER as a postdoctoral researcher in 2020 after receiving his PhD in Economics at the Paris School of Economics (PSE).
He is an applied economist working at the intersection of development, history, and cultural economics. In his research, he explores how migration shapes origin and destination societies through the movement of people and the diffusion of ideas - with a special focus on cultural values, social cohesion, and human capital. Much of his work draws on historical natural experiments and newly digitized data. He also uses experimental methods (including RCTs) to evaluate contemporary migration policies.
