Joachim Voth is UBS Foundation Professor of Economics at the University of Zürich and Scientific Director of the UBS Center for Economics in Society. He is an Elected Fellow of the Econometric Society. Among his editorial duties he served as one of the joint managing editors of the Economic Journal, and associate editor at the Quarterly Journal of Economics. In the past, he has also been a managing editor of Explorations in Economic History, and of the European Review of Economic History.
His research examines long-run economic growth, political economy, conflict, persistence and culture. He has worked on the economic history of war, on sovereign debt, the causes and consequences of the Nazi Party’s rise to power, and the economic history of the Industrial Revolution. His research is regularly published in the top-tier international journals, notably in the AER, QJE, JPE, RESTUD, PNAS, APSR, AEJ:Applied, RESTAT, the EJ, and the Journal of Finance, as well as leading field journals. He has also (co-)authored three academic books with Oxford and Princeton University Press and five popular books.
He will present a paper, joint with David Lagakos, and Stelios Michalopoulos, at the next PEPES Seminar on the topic:
