Valentin Marchal is a PhD Candidate in Economics at Sciences Po working on a thesis entitled Public Debt and Safety Trap in Open Economies under the supervision of Stéphane Guibaud. He will be on the academic job market this Fall. He is also a Teaching Fellow at the Department. 

His research interests are in rational bubbles, wealth inequality and monetary-fiscal Interaction. His work addresses macro-finance issues with an emphasis on theoretical approaches. In the Spring 2024, he visited Pompeu Fabra University at the invitation of Alberto Martin and Jaume Ventura
