Portrait of Carolyn Pelnik

Carolyn Pelnik is a Research Economist in the Development Research Group (DECRG) of the World Bank. She joined just after being awarded a PhD in Economics & Public Policy by Tufts University in 2025.

Her work is in development economics, with a particular focus on the drivers of firm growth and the impact of financial services and market access in low- and middle-income countries. In 2024 she was the laureate of the Northeastern Universities Development Consortium (NEUDC) Distinguished Paper Award. She has also been awarded a number of fellowships and research grants throughout her doctoral studies. She is currently working on a project (with Campos, Dalton, de Nicola, Morales & Segnana) with important support from the World Bank/EU Regional Competitiveness (EuroCOMP) Lab: Human v. AI Business Consulting (Bulgaria).
