Saumitra Jha

Saumitra JHA is Associate Professor of Political Economy at Stanford Graduate School for Business and is a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). He is also affiliated as an Associate Professor of Political Science and of Economics at the School of Humanities and Sciences, and as a Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. Among his editorial activities, he serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Development Economics and the Journal of Comparative Economics. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Business and Politics and of the Political Economy section of Global Perspectives.

Saumitra Jha’s research focuses upon understanding the effectiveness of organisations and innovations that societies have developed to address the problems of violence and other political risks, and to seek new lessons for fostering peace and development. His research has been published in leading journals in economics and political science, including Econometrica, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Political.
