Joseph Altonji

Joseph ALTONJI is the Thomas DeWitt Cuyler Professor of Economics at Yale University. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA).  Among his current editorial duties, he is on the Editorial Board of Labour Economics and Labour, as well as Microeconomic Insights which he founded.

He specialises in labour economics and applied econometrics. His interests include labour market fluctuations, labour supply, consumption behaviour, the economics of education, economic links among family members, race and gender in the labour market, wage determination, and econometric methods.

He has received a number of professional honours for his work: he is an elected fellow of the Econometric Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also an elected fellow and past president of the Society of Labor Economists and President of the Eastern Economic Association. He received the IZA Prize in Labor Economics in 2018.
