Kiminori MATSUYAMA is Professor of Economics at Northwestern University. He is also a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a 'chercheur associé' at the Centre de l’économie de l’innovation (Collège de France), a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), an International Senior Fellow at the Canon Institute for Global Studies, and a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory. He serves as a Member of the Academic Advisory Council of the Institute of New Structural Economics (Peking University), and as a Foreign Member of the Collegio Docenti of the Ph.D programme in Global Studies (University of Urbino). Among his editorial duties, he is notably an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies.

His research interests concern international trade and economic growth and development. He is particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms behind macroeconomic instability, structural transformation, as well as inequality across countries, regions, and households. He was the 1996 winner of the Nakahara Prize awarded to the best young economist by the Japanese Economic Association.
