Biography

Noémie Pinardon-Touati is Assistant Professor of Economics at Columbia University since 2022 after defending her doctoral dissertation at HEC Paris.

Her research areas are macroeconomics and finance. Her research investigates the interplay between government intervention and corporate financial and real behaviour. For instance, she has studied how the mode of financing of government expenditures affects firms: she has shown that local governments’ increased reliance on debt to finance their expenditures adversely affects the private sector via a crowding out effect. She has also investigated the rationale for government intervention in the corporate sector and the consequences on firm behaviour.

Although her academic career is relatively young, her work has been recognised both in France and abroad: in 2022 she was awarded the European Financial Association Prize for the Best Paper by Young Researchers as well as the AMF  Best Young Researcher Award. And in 2024 she was the laureate of the Banque de France's Best Young Economist Award.
