Biography
Keith Head joined the Department in 2026 as Professor of Economics from the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association.
His research focuses on international trade policy and the decisions of multinational corporations. Recently published work includes 1) the impact of multinational acquisitions of beer and spirits brands, 2) a review of the (partial) success of European integration policies, and 3) the impact of tighter CUSMA rules of origin on auto production in North America. Current research examines industrial policy for multi-stage production (focus on battery-electric vehicle industry) and optimal tariffs.
Published regularly in the top tier international journals, Keith Head was a two-time recipient of UBC's Killam Faculty Awards - in 2008, Killam Research Prize and in 2000 a Killam Teaching Prize. In 2013 he was awarded a Sauder Research Excellence Award (senior category) in recognition of his influential work in international trade and economic geography.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), supervised by Paul Krugman.
