Emma Du Puy

Emma Du Puy is Assistant Professor of Economics (tenure track) at the Department since the Fall 2026. She joined us after completing a year as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Columbia University's Center for Political Economy. She defended her doctoral dissertation at Columbia in 2025.

Her research lies at the intersection of environmental economics, empirical industrial organisation and labour economics. Her graduate research programme led her to study the joint economic surplus and environmental pollution consequences of European Union (EU) agricultural subsidies, the costs of adaptation to climate change, the ecosystem consequences of the homogenisation of US agricultural landscapes, and the role of tacit skills in the US migrant labour markets. During her postdoctoral fellowship, she extended her research on dynamic land use by developing a spatial model of farm dynamics to look at the environmental consequences of EU enlargements.

She holds a PhD in Sustainable Development from Columbia, a Master in Economics from the Paris School of Economics (PSE), and a Master in International Economic Policy from Sciences Po's Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA).
