Seminar of the Key Theme: The transformations of capitalism

Sciences Po, Salle du Conseil, 13 rue de l'Université, 75007 Paris, compulsory registration

Capitalism

Beyond the multiplicity of indicators offered by the literature, contemporary financialization is characterized by an unprecedented socio-economic regime, dominated by innovation and financial globalization. It imposed itself in the United States following a series of reforms initially perceived as marginal but which ended up forming a radically new system. They spread throughout the world even if it meant destabilizing other regimes based on innovation and the export of industrial products. The power of financiers operating on an international scale is so great that the succession of increasingly serious crises has not yet called it into question. It is therefore a threat to national sovereignty and democracy if the reality of power escapes citizens. Does the resumption of control by central banks after 2008 and the outbreak of the pandemic mark a major change? The history is not yet written!
