Two-Year Master's Programmes at Sciences Po, Domestic Graduate Procedure: a two-step selection process

The selection process for Sciences Po two-year Master’s programmes consists of two stages:

  • the admissibility stage: the evaluation of your application file,
  • the admission stage: the interview.

The selection process for dual degrees is different. Please refer to the page dedicated to dual degrees.

The admissibility stage

The evaluation of the application is based on a thorough review of the candidate’s submitted materials. Please consult the full list of required documents to be included in your application.

The admissibility stage is the first step in the selection process. Your application will be subject to a qualitative evaluation. The academic background is assessed with the utmost care. Academic performance is a key element in the selection of our future students.

While there is no formal minimum grade requirement for admission, candidates applying to our two-years master's programmes through the domestic procedure are strongly encouraged to present a solid academic record.

  • A grade average of 14/20 for the undergraduate studies is recommended.
  • For applicants coming from Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Écoles (CPGE), a minimum average of 10/20 is considered acceptable, given the specific academic rigor of these programs.

These grade levels are not strict prerequisites, but they reflect the level of academic excellence we expect from prospective students. Please note that no academic average guarantees admission, as the entire application is assessed based on all materials submitted by the candidate.

The selection committee proceeds to a holistic evaluation of your file. All the elements CVs, personal statements, personal and professional experience, etc. are taken into account during this process.

We especially assess the applicants' strengths and potential to succeed in their studies at Sciences Po, namely:

  • their academic performance;
  • their motivation for the requested programme and for studying at Sciences Po and the coherence between their professional project and the chosen programme;
  • their personal background and the coherence between their professional project and the chosen programme.

The admissibility committee is chaired by a university professor (or equivalent) and includes, among others, the Director of Sciences Po or their representatives, as well as representatives from the academic departments, the Admissions Office, and the central administration of Sciences Po.

The committee’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

Students from an “établissement conventionné” with Sciences Po are exempt from the admissibility stage, provided they submit a certificate that complies with the terms of the agreement.

The admission stage

Candidates declared admissible are invited to attend a remote interview before a panel composed of at least one representative of the Director of Sciences Po and one Sciences Po teacher.

The interview dates and times will be published in your application file on the portal a few days before the interview period. You will receive an email informing you of the date on which you may select your time slot. It is your responsibility to register for the time slot that suits you best. Time slots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Your official interview invitation will be sent by email (after a few days). This message will include all necessary practical information, as well as your personal connection link to join the interview panel.

The interview is conducted in French for programs taught in French. For programs taught in English, the interview may be conducted in French and/or English. If you do not speak French, please inform us in advance of the interview.

This 20-minute interview is designed to assess the applicant’s motivation, critical thinking skills, and ability to develop a personal and well-structured argument. It aims in particular to evaluate the applicant’s motivation to pursue studies at Sciences Po, the coherence of their personal and professional project, and the strengths and potential they demonstrate to succeed in their studies.

At the end of the interview, the panel will issue a collective and reasoned opinion on the candidate’s performance.

The final list of candidates admitted is established by an admissions committee chaired by a university professor (or equivalent), and composed of the Director of Sciences Po or their representative, along with representatives of the interview panels appointed by the Director. This jury bases its decision on the interview panel’s opinion and the review of the candidate’s application file.

The committee’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
