Julien | Director of Development and Productions, online media HugoDécrypte.

Julien completed his studies in the Communications, Media and Creative Industries Master's program. He is currently the Director of Development and Productions at the online media HugoDécrypte.

CouKd your describe your academic Background?

I joined Sciences Po in the undergraduate program, on the Reims campus, and did my 3rd year as an exchange student at McGill University (Montreal).

As I've been passionate about audiovisual and web creation since I was a teenager, I chose to do the Master's degree in communications, media and creative industries, to work in the creative industry.

How did your master's program experience contribute to your current position?

It's a master's degree with a perfect mix of theoretical and practical learning.

On the theoretical side, we learn all facets of business management in the world of media and communication. These courses are enriched by the input of the social sciences. On the practical side, the program also offers courses and workshops focusing on professional skills.

These complementary contributions ensure that you'll be fully operational by the time you graduate.

An example of a project you are working on?

I had the opportunity to work on a project that was both interesting and challenging. I participated in the creation and managed the entire production of interviews with candidates for the 2022 presidential election. We hosted 10 out of the 12 candidates and produced each program, broadcast on YouTube, in collaboration with Mediawan.

It was a very exciting project at the intersection of creative, business, and legal issues, including intellectual property questions.

How did your master's experience help you with your role?

Beyond all the creative learnings acquired, which are obviously very enriching and which I apply daily, it is all the skills related to the life of a company that bring me a lot: accounting applied to the world of communication and media, and the course on corporate strategy, which is a common course with other masters at the School of Management and Impact.

If you had to give one piece of advice to future graduates, what would it be?

A piece of advice that I would give, and that is often given at Sciences Po, would be to seek experiences outside of university life, to launch or participate in projects, to work as a freelancer...

These experiences contribute to personal growth and are highly valued when entering the job market.
