Due to the suspension of residential summer camps in France, the Summer School has decided to move the 2021 Pre-College Programme online.

Every summer, Sciences Po opens its doors to secondary school students from around the world as part of the Summer School’s Pre-College Programme. This programme is an opportunity to discover Sciences Po and experience college life and academics at France’s leading university in the social sciences.

The Online Pre-College Programme challenges students’ perspectives and offers them the opportunity to participate in lively discussions with renowned professors and students from around the world. In addition, the programme includes a rich social and cultural programme to recreate the multicultural social environment of the Summer School.

GET A TASTE OF UNIVERSITY academics

During two or four weeks in July, students undertake rigorous coursework in the social sciences, which introduces them to the key disciplines and methodologies of a Sciences Po education. Students can choose to participate in one session of two weeks or do both sessions and study for four weeks.

Participants explore current international issues from an interdisciplinary perspective through thematic Master Classes taught by Sciences Po professors. These Master Classes address subjects such as the European Union, global inequalities, and populism, as well as peace-building and sustainable development. Interactive tutorials reinforce learning, while preparing students for university studies through an emphasis on academic methodology.

Elective classes allow students to focus on one of Sciences Po’s core disciplines, such as international relations, political science, sociology or history.

The overall structure and content of the course (tutorials, Master Classes and elective) have been maintained. All classes will be taught online, in a live, synchronous format to allow for maximum interaction among students and their professors. Courses are scheduled to accommodate various time zones, to allow students to participate throughout the world.

connecting through a social and cultural online programme

While the academic programme is intense, the Online Pre-College Programme makes time for extracurricular activities. The Summer School offers an enriching social and cultural programme online. Students have the opportunity to connect and bond with other students from around the world through icebreakers and collaborative games. The programme also includes virtual visits with professional guides, immersing students in Parisian landmarks and museums, as well as a Sciences Po campus tour and a creativity contest.

wherever you are, become a part of SCIENCES PO’S INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

Summer School students become part of an international community of students who come from around the world and share a common passion for the social sciences. Here’s what some of our alumni have to say about their experience in the Pre-College Programme:

"What I enjoyed the most I'd say is the quality of all the professors. They were truly outstanding! They went out of their way to really provide an interactive experience, great explanations and to include us in their content." - Thibault, France & Netherlands

"The online learning experience made me feel like I was in the classroom. We managed to interact so much. We've learned together. We've laughed together. We've joined the social activities together. I felt that we've created a bond, even though it was through a screen, so I'm really grateful for having this class. I think this programme meets the target for how online learning experiences should really be.  - Mara-Denisa, Romania

"I loved being able to understand a European perspective on global politics. I also met so many peers from a wide range of different countries, which was very eye-opening." - Jui-Lin, Taiwan

"Most of my classmates are very well informed and I can tell that a lot of them are genuinely passionate about politics. There are many students that have so much knowledge and insight to give to the class. It's very impressive, especially since some of them are only 15, so it definitely enriches the lesson." - Joanna, Greece
