Online Courses for Summer 2020

After careful consideration of the global health situation, the Sciences Po Summer School has decided to cancel the 1st session of the Pre-College Programme and move the 2nd session online for Summer 2020. While we are not able to welcome students on campus, we are committed to providing a safe and enriching academic experience that maintains Sciences Po’s rigorous academic standards

Courses take place via the Zoom platform in a live, synchronous format to allow for maximum interaction. Online courses are organized in the same format as offline courses; master classes are taught in a lecture format with all participants, while tutorials and elective classes are organized as small-group, interactive seminars. Course length and content is designed for the online format so that students can take full advantage of this learning experience.

Students also have access to all of Sciences Po's online learning and research tools via their student account, which gives them full access to the online holdings of Sciences Po's library.

The Pre-College Programme gives high school students a taste of university academics through rigorous coursework in the social sciences, which introduces them to the key disciplines and methodologies of a Sciences Po education.

Participants explore current international issues from an interdisciplinary perspective through thematic master classes taught by Sciences Po professors. These master classes address subjects such as the European Union, populist movements, peace-building and sustainable development. Interactive tutorials reinforce learning, while preparing students for university studies through an emphasis on academic methodology. Elective classes allow students to focus on one of Sciences Po’s core disciplines (such as international relations, political science, or sociology).

Master classes and tutorials are taught exclusively English, while students have a choice between social sciences elective classes taught in English or French.

Summer School students are part of an international community, made up of students who come from around the world and share a common passion for the social sciences. In 2019, participants represented 37 different nationalities from 35 different countries. This year, the Summer School is creating a virtual social and cultural programme to allow participants to take part in the multicultural social environment of the Summer School. This optional programme will include guided virtual tours, icebreakers and collaborative games in order to foster student interactions and the discovery of France and Sciences Po.
