Intensive Policy Lab: Academics

In July 2026, Sciences Po will host a two-week Policy Lab designed as a collaborative sprint to examine how civilians navigate the aftermath of violent conflict.

The programme blends expert led lectures, diplomatic simulations, creative workshops, and team exercises to connect theory with practice in a fast-paced, immersive environment.

The objective of the training is to clarify the conditions under which post-conflict reconstruction actions take place and the underlying issues involved. In addition to familiarizing themselves with the different approaches and models that govern the implementation of reconstruction operations, participants will enhance some skills: working in multidisciplinary teams, developing collective intelligence to solve problems, and knowing how to contribute to project management.

WEEK 1: FOUNDATIONS AND PRACTICE

The first week begins with an opening lecture by Frédéric Ramel, Director of Sciences Po’s Department of Political Science. His lecture will address International System Transformation: Situating Post‑Conflict Reconstruction in the Contemporary Era.

Participants will then attend 15 hours of lectures delivered by professors and practitioners recognized for their expertise. These sessions will provide the essential knowledge needed to grasp the main issues and implications of post‑conflict reconstruction.

Core topics will cover themes such as:

  • Conflict Studies: Ground Realities and Actors of Peace
  • International Relations: Peacekeeping and Post‑Conflict Politics
  • DDR and SSR in Practice
  • Transitional Justice
  • Humanitarian and Development Studies: Early Recovery and Linking Relief to Development

Afternoons will be devoted to practice labs, combining analytical workshops, forecasting exercises, creative sessions, and a collective simulation game. These activities are designed by our team of experts to help participants engage with key concepts and strengthen practical skills.

WEEK 2: COLLABORATIVE GROUP PROJECT

The second week shifts from analysis to application. Teams will tackle real‑world challenges through collaborative projects that translate theory into practice. Each small group, guided by professors and tutors, will produce an output tailored to their chosen problem—such as a policy paper, a podcast, or a strategic briefing.

This hands‑on approach consolidates learning, fosters creativity, and equips participants with practical tools to communicate solutions effectively.
