Joint PhD with Northwestern University

Since 2012, per an agreement between the sociology departments of Sciences Po and of Northwestern University (USA – Illinois), students are able to earn a joint PhD.

This partnership was established for sociology PhD students in their first thesis year who are interested in a dual program and whose research topics and areas relate to the United States.

Only one student per year will be admitted to this program at each institution.  The selected French PhD student will spend his/her second and third thesis years in the department of sociology at Northwestern University.

The student will return to Sciences Po for the fourth year with guaranteed funding and will defend his/her thesis in English in front of a committee consisting of members from both departments.
