Sciences Po/International Max Planck Research School
The doctoral training jointly offered by Sciences Po and the IMPRS-SPCE of the Max Planck Institute and University of Cologne allows students pursuing a PhD in sociology or political science to specialize in economic sociology, political economy, and organizational theory.
Through exchange visits and joint seminars participants will benefit from the intellectual resources of both institutions and will have the opportunity to pursue a joint Franco-German PhD.
To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in Sciences Po’s doctoral program. They may spend between two and three semesters in Cologne.
To earn a joint PhD from the Franco-German program the candidate must enrol for three semesters at the partner institution. Shorter stays are also possible: students are then considered to be exchange students.
The Max Planck Centre/Sciences Po (Maxpo) offers a stipend of 600€ per month. The Max Planck Institute in Cologne will host candidates and provide a shared office. Candidates are responsible for finding housing in Cologne, but the IMPRS-SPCE can provide useful information.
Students in Sciences Po’s sociology or political science doctoral programs who are either in their first thesis year (for a joint program or exchange) or second thesis year (for an exchange) may apply to the joint program.
Application packages must include:
- a letter in English explaining expectations of the stay
- a detailed resume in English
- the proposed thesis and a progress report.
Applications must be electronically submitted by June 30, 2016 at the latest to the Doctoral School’s Carine Boutillier : email@example.com.
The selection is to be made by mid-December 2016.
