‘Hail Satan?’ (2019)
The Law and Cinema Club is back for a second season. We start of this new cycle with one of the most talked about documentaries of the year so far: ‘Hail Satan?’ (2019).
In Hail Satan?, political filmmaker Penny Lane explores the fascinating world of The Satanic Temple, a social movement organisation that fights for social justice, equal rights and religious pluralism in the US. Using Satanism as a frame to represent and stand up for ‘the other’, the Temple’s main objective is to raise debate and controversy about Christianity’s hold over America’s (secular) political and legal institutions. In short, plenty of material for an ever-relevant discussion on the separation of state and religion in the West.
