The text that is the basis for my presentation consists in a 'restoration' of Kant's essay on the wrongfulness of reprinting: Von der Unrechtmäßigkeit des Büchernachdrucks (1785).
This brief text is commonly seen as significant in the formation of the concepts of the author and the work in modern literary property, and as one of the places in which Kant works out what is involved in the public use of reason. If one reads the text in its own terms, neither the interpretation of the intellectual property scholar, nor that of the Kant scholar, quite captures the complexity of the text or its potential for reflection on the juridical nature of the book.
