Biography

Anne Lancien is a post-doctoral fellow at the Observatoire international du religieux (CERI/Sciences po) and a teaching assistant at the chair of studies on the religious phenomenon at Sciences po.

She defended a thesis on "The Ligue de l'enseignement: changes in a popular education institution" (under the direction of Philippe Portier). She was also a researcher for the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (CIASE). Her work focuses on the socio-history of secularism and non- religion, on secular activism, on sexual and gender-based violence.

She is also studying the impact of religion in international relations as part of her post-doctoral studies. She has edited the book Faits religieux et médias, Presses universitaires de Rennes (2022) and published, among others, "Secular associations as vectors of integration and production of secularism in contemporary society. The case of the League of education," in A.-L. Zwilling et al, Formatting religions in Modern societies, Springer editions, 2022; "Secular organizations and the resurgence of religion in the public space: an axiological competition," Studies in Religion, 2019, "Adenauer, de Gasperi, Schuman and the principle of subsidiarity: a 'cultural spillover'?" a constructivist approach to European integration," L'Europe en formation, 2013.

- Sociology-politics of activism, popular education and social and solidarity economy: secular activism, associative sector, Ligue de l'enseignement, school quarrel, disaffiliation, voluntary work, civic service.
- Socio-history of secularism: secularization, non-religion, confessional identity claims, Republic, universal/particular, interfaith dialogue. 
- Analysis of public policies: educational public policies, new public management, public policies on religion, reasonable accommodation, separatism. 
- Socio-history of sexual violence: sexual violence in the Church, gender of victims of sexual abuse, sociological profile of victims and abusers, episcopal policies for managing sexual abuse. 
- Sociology of international relations: diffusion of norms on the scale of the European Union, concept of cultural spillover, impact of religion in international relations.
