Thematic Selection - Do Artificial Intelligence Dreams of Electric Sheep?

Since Antiquity, people have been thinking about creating machines that can imitate human reasoning. The term "artificial intelligence" was introduced in 1955 by the American mathematician John McCarthy.

Over the last twenty years, progress has been lightning-fast and AI is already everywhere: education, health, justice, leisure, arts, public policy, banking, etc.

Artificial intelligence now appears to be a civilisational issue: if digital technologies make it possible to manipulate, store and transmit information, AI is expected to state truths based on the automated interpretation of situations.

The Sciences Po library offers a wide range of resources from the HSS disciplines to explore this theme, which can be summarised as follows: What is a human being? What limits should be placed on the man/machine distinction?
