Loans
Borrowing privileges, online requests, direct access, everything about loaning items from the Sciences Po library.
Borrowing privileges
A library card is required to access materials onsite and to borrow them. Users are responsible for their library card as well as for any borrowed materials.
Some materials are non-circulating.
Borrowing privileges vary according to the kind of library card held by the user as well as to the type and storage location of materials.

Late returns and disputes
When materials are returned late, borrowing privileges are suspended for a period equal to the number of days the materials are overdue.
Users are responsible for replacing or reimbursing for lost or damaged materials.
For all questions regarding overdue materials and disputes, contact the circulation desk (Saint-Guillaume Library, ground floor).
how to make a loan?
Direct Access
Direct access refers to material directly accessible in the reading rooms.
To loan them, help yourself to the shelves and go to the reception desks of the Saint-Guillaume and Saint-Thomas libraries, or use the self-service issue machines.
Online request
To access materials that are not in direct access, you need to make an online request.
How ?
In the catalogue, you can request :
- available items from closed stacks
- borrowed items from closed stacks or direct access (this is the reservation)
- items in process or in transfer
To do this:
- search for the document reference in the catalogue and click on the "Request" button
- enter your login details;
- choose the place where you wish to collect the document (from the Saint-Guillaume library reception desk or from a locker);
- click on the "Send request" button.
As soon as the item is available, you will receive an e-mail with the place, date and time of collection. The documents are kept for 3 days at the place of collection.
Terms
You may not submit an online request if:
- your account has expired
- you have overdue materials on your account
- your borrowing privileges have been suspended
- your user account is blocked
RENEWALS
Renewal is automatic, under certain terms.
How?
Two days before the due date, the automatic renewal takes place:
- if possible, your loans are extended by the maximum loan period
- if this is not possible (request by another user, maximum loan duration reached, etc.), you will be notified by email of the return of the document expected within two days.
What is the maximum loan period?
It is the total possible duration of the loan: the initial duration guaranteed during the loan + the possible renewal duration:
- maximum duration of 25 days for direct access documents (initial loan: 15 days guaranteed)
- maximum duration of 2 months for closed stacks documents (initial loan: 1 month guaranteed)
This service is not available for DVD and CD.
The extension is only possible within the limit of the subscription period.
Holders of a one-week card do not have access to this service.
Terms
No automatic renewal if:
- another user has placed a hold on the document
- you have already reached your maximum loan duration
- the document is a DVD or CD
- there is at least one other overdue item on your account
- your borrowing privileges are suspended
- your library account is blocked
- your library card has expired
- you hold a one-week card
