The intersectionality of the climate crisis can be viewed as a humanitarian crisis with far-reaching impacts on vulnerable communities worldwide. In Latin America, home to some of the most biodiverse regions in the world, Indigenous and local communities are particularly susceptible to climate change, facing challenges such as water scarcity, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and threats to their livelihoods.

This panel seeks to address the multifaceted nature of the climate crisis and policy making in the Amazon, which has prompted Latin American states and other Amazon states, notably France, to question how domestic laws and policies can protect environmental defenders, and how joining forces can affect the impact of each state in the solutions brought to social demands in the Amazon: international standards, regional cooperation, national joint actions, etc. This panel aims to address these questions and explore the potential of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization in tackling transnational issues. It is also an opportunity to spread awareness about the Amazon in Europe to garner support for conservation and sustainable development efforts.
