Sciences Po's Gender Studies Programme (PRESAGE) is pleased to extend an invitation for its upcoming seminar session which will take place in room H202B, 28 rue des Saints-Pères, Paris 7 on April 4, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.

We are honoured to welcome Brenda Rodriguez Alegre, PhD, RP, Visiting Professor at CERI - Sciences Po and Université Paris Cité, Lecturer in the Gender Studies Programme at the University of Hong Kong.

Presentation: "Transitioning at the Borders: the Diasporic, Migration and Travel Narratives of Transpinays"

Transpinays or transgender women in the Philippines may be very visible and active voices across various platforms locally yet in the absence of anti-discrimination laws, gender recognition laws and other queer protective and recognising laws, remain among the most marginalised and oppressed. Over the years, transpinays had varying experiences across the diaspora, migrations and travelling. This presentation provides some overview of these particular experiences of transpinays and their challenges when crossing borders, from intrusive interrogations, to violative practices and the likelihood of violence in various contexts.
