Language requirements (4 questions)
- May I apply to a graduate programme without my language test scores?
Yes, you may. If you apply to a one-year or two-year Master's programme (excl. dual degree programmes) your application can be processed without your language test scores. Therefore, your application can be rejected, or you can receive a conditional offer of admission (see "Newly admitted" section below) before providing them.
If you are selected, you will receive a conditional offer of admission. You will be required to provide proof of your language proficiency as defined on our website before the deadline set every year, otherwise our conditional offer of admission will no longer be valid.
However, your application will not be processed without a language test score if:
- You apply to a dual degree programme: You must provide your language test score no later than the deadline of the programme you are applying to.
- You apply for a scholarship (Boutmy or Eiffel): You must provide your language test score no later than the deadline of the scholarship you are applying for.
Some exemptions may apply.
Remember: After you sit for your language test, you may have to wait two to three months before receiving your score. You must therefore take the necessary precautions in order to be able to provide your score by the deadline. When submitting your application, you must enter the date on which you will take your test.
- How long are the test results valid for?
- The required language is my mother tongue. Do I need to take a language test?

References (7 questions)
- Do the referees need to fill the form or may they send a letter by email?
- May I send more than two professional references to apply to a one-year master's programme ?
- May I add or delete a referee from my application form?
- How do my referees receive the form to fill out?
Once you have entered the contact details of your professional or academic referees in your application form, an e-mail will be sent inviting them to complete the recommendation form which will be automatically attached to your online application.
We therefore recommend that you make arrangements with your referees beforehand and make sure that they will be able to respond to your request. Bear in mind that your referees receive many such requests.
Make sure your referees know when the reference is due and in which language they must write it. If they don't use the required language, your application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.
If you are applying to a dual degree programme with a non-French partner university, the references must be written in English.
Be sure your referees know that the reference must be completed online. The quality of your file depends on it. It is your responsibility to make sure your referees have received the email asking them to complete the reference form.
If they have not received it, please contact us.
- May I submit my application with a missing reference?
- May I read the references provided by my referees?
- In which language should references be written?
For Sciences Po Master's programmes: Reference forms must be completed in French or English (unless otherwise instructed).
For dual degree programmes, they must be written in English (unless otherwise instructed).
If you apply to both a master's programme and a dual degree programme, they must be written in English (unless otherwise instructed).
