Ségrégation sociale à l'école et réussite scolaire : étude des effets des fermetures de collèges de quartiers défavorisés

Project description:
This study proposes to use quantitative impact assessment methods recognised in the international literature to study the effects of the closure of collèges located in Sensitive Urban Zones (ZUS) or with a high proportion of pupils coming from schools located in ZUS. These closures create a local shock in terms of school mapping, leading to a sudden reduction in social segregation between collèges.
As a result of the closures, new cohorts of pupils from schools in disadvantaged neighbourhoods automatically find themselves attending a different collège from the previous cohorts. In many cases, this new collège is more socially advantaged, has better results in the Diplôme National du Brevet, and has a higher proportion of pupils entering the seconde générale et technologique after the troisième, and fewer drop-outs. The analysis will focus on measuring the direct effects of this event on the educational trajectory of pupils from disadvantaged neighbourhoods, as well as the indirect effects on the educational trajectory of their new classmates who see these new peers arrive at their school.
