Impact des origines des économistes sur leurs parcours et leur travaux

Project holder :

Project description :

This project aims to study the impact of social origins on the career paths of economists, to see to what extent their origins can have an influence both on their career paths and their progress, and also potentially on their subjects of study and some of their results.

The literature has already studied the impact of an economist's gender on his or her career path and progression (see for example Shulamit Kahn (1993), Gender Differences in Academic Career Paths of Economists, The American Economic Review, Vol. 83, No. 2, Papers and Proceedings of the Hundred and Fifth Annual Meeting of the American Economic Association, pp. 52-56, May, https://www.jstor.org/stable/2117639 or Bosquet C., Combes P.-P. & García-Peñalosa C. (2018), Gender and Promotions: Evidence from Academic Economists in France, The Scandinavian Journal of Economics, March, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/sjoe.12300 ).

This project aims to adopt a more encompassing approach, which will be able to capture origins using different indicators (gender but also place of birth, or parents' occupation, for example).
