Jean Bassères Appointed as the Interim Administrator of Sciences Po

The Minister for Higher Education and Research, in agreement with the President of the Fondation nationale des sciences politiques (FNSP), has appointed Jean Bassères as the interim administrator of the FNSP and the IEP de Paris (Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris).

An alumnus of our institution and a distinguished senior civil servant, Jean Bassères has dedicated his professional career to serving the State. He began his career at the Public Accounts Department, which he later headed, and then worked successively as Secretary General of the Ministry of the Economy, Head at the General Inspectorate of Finance and Managing Director of France Travail (formerly Pôle Emploi). He was also chairman of the commission responsible for reforming the Institut national du service public (INSP, formerly ENA).

From 27th March, he has been assuming full responsibility for his roles as administrator of Sciences Po, until the end of the process for electing a new director. He will ensure the continuity of our institution's teaching and research activities as the academic year draws to a close.

With regard to the process for electing the new director, Sciences Po's bylaws provide for the establishment of a committee responsible for preparing the proposal to the FNSP Board of Directors and the IEP de Paris Board of Directors for the appointment of a new Foundation Administrator and a new Institute Director, respectively. This committee will carry out a public call for candidates published in the Journal officiel de la République française, examine the applications and select those to be interviewed. It will draw up a proposal and submit it to the two boards, which will vote on it. The joint proposal will be forwarded to the appointing authorities.
