The School of Public Affairs Association (AEAP) at the heart of the European institutions!

Trip to Brussels organised by the School of Public Affairs Association (credits: AEAP)

On Thursday 15 February 2024, a delegation of 24 students travelled to Brussels to learn about the workings of the European institutions and the actors in the private sector.

Starting with a visit to the European Parliament and a discussion with Sandro Gozi MEP, the trip continued with a stopover at the European Commission and a meeting with members of the General Secretariat. This was a particularly rewarding experience for the students, who were able to ask a wide range of questions about the realities of working for the European Union.

The day ended with an afterwork organised by the members of the Brussels section of the Sciences Po Alumnis, an opportunity for everyone to broaden their network and gain a better understanding of professional opportunities in Belgium!

The following day saw a number of visits, starting with a visit to the French Permanent Representation to the EU, during which the issues surrounding France's presence in the European institutions were explored.

This was followed by a visit to the European Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee, bodies that are all too often overlooked yet fundamental to the smooth running of the European Union.

Finally, the students were able to visit the FIPRA consultancy firm, whose public affairs activities are an outlet for IEP students.

Congratulations to Jean-Baptiste Chaléroux, AEAP President, Dominika Szereda, Vice-President for European Affairs, René Hofer, Head of the Europe in the World policy stream, Lola Laebens, Head of the Events Department and Miriam Palai, Head of the Communications Department, for organising this exciting trip, which benefited students at the School of Public Affairs!
